In the second half of the year 2021, Haiti and its people both in Haiti and its diaspora experienced a series of shocking events from the assassination of its head of state, to an earthquake, to Haitian migrants being racially assaulted on the US-Mexico border.
DCC Responded In-Kind with Guidance
As a series of horrifying events presented themselves, working with the DCC board, Mr. Guiteau communicated to supporters and DCC supported trauma counseling on the ground.
July 8, 2021: Issued a statement on the assassination of Haiti’s sitting president that offered geopolitical contextualization.
August 15, 2021: Issued a statement after the most recent earthquake in Haiti regarding best practices for supporting those affected.
September 2021: Rerouted donated funds, DCC supported the financing of a small group of Haitian Psychologists who traveled to the areas in Haiti affected by the earthquake to provide trauma counseling.
October 2021: Attended the Haitian Studies Association Conference to learn more about what colleagues are doing to support Haiti through the current humanitarian crisis.
